Denny's Fish  Room Page

My intention as I constructed my new fish room was to have virtually all drilled tanks on central systems.  I'm approaching the completion of the construction now, and will probably only have about 6 small aquariums not connected to one of my 5 central systems.  These tanks are small breeding tanks which will be cleaned after each use, so won't need to be in any of the systems.  I probably still will have temperature issues over the winter months, but will adjust as necessary when we get to the point where I'll have to take care of it.  That may also affect what fish I eventually settle on.  The following pictures are of the five central systems I have in place:

Each separate system has multiple components and piping systems.  There is an overflow system in each tank to take water out of the tank and run it through the sump/filter.  There is a system to pump the water back into the tanks with a valve on each tank for volume control.  There is a float valve in each sump to automatically control the water level and replace water lost due to siphoning or evaporation (no more buckets or hoses to replenish the water).  There is a waste water system which allows individual tanks to be siphoned with the waste water being taken to the floor drain (no more buckets or garbage cans that have to be emptied).  And finally there will be another system installed to provide air to each of the tanks for sponge filtration.  This should make it possible to easily do routine maintenance on more than 50 tanks without spending all my time and efforts on maintenance rather than with my fish.

I've just set up some ponds off my deck to house goldfish.  These ponds are on a central system which I'll have to decide about running through the winter.  Right now they are cycling, which isn't the best situation for the fancy goldfish inhabiting the tubs.  I've got Lionheads, Orandas, Ryukins, Pearlscale, and Moors in 3 - 100 gallon tubs and 1 - 300 gallon tub.
